Dance Force Rocks!

So in late March, I was hired to photograph some pretty cool cats.

Did I just say "cats"?  Oh my!  Where did THAT come from???

Anywho . . . I had a blast photographing a very talented group of young adults who are part of the "Dance Force" team at Lincoln College.  They are awesome!

This job was close to my heart because I danced for 10 years, and have a daughter who dances -- quite passionately by the way.  It's totally in her heart.

Anyway, their instructor/coach told me that they had never had formal dance training before.  Well, all but one of them that is.  You'd never have known that -- you'd thought that they had danced for years.  And that's a testament to their coach and her unbelievable talent in teaching and choreography.  You rock, Kim!

So . . . let's get started.  :)

We started with a group shot.  It will go in their upcoming Spring performance program.  Aren't they a fine lookin' bunch?  :)

Next we did some individual shots of those graduating with an associate's degree and also those graduating with a bachelor's degree.   Good luck to you!  Congrats on your acccomplishment!

These pictures also will go in their program.

Here are a few of my faves . . .

Look at that SASS!  :)

Love her hat!  She's such a beauty!

Next they showed me what they "got"!  We moved into the studio and they practiced their routines for their upcoming performance.

But, before we got started, they had to show me some more sass . . . :)

And then they started.  And I was mesmerized. . .

I've gotta add a little grain ya know!  (Below)

Love the hair flying in this next one!

Remember I said their teacher was pretty sure only one of them had formal dance training?  Well here she is.  And let me tell you . . . she was AMAZING!
(And her braids were pretty cool, too!)

Love this next one.  Such beauties.

And these girls have never formally danced???

Could have fooled me!

So this next one is one of my favorites from the shoot.  They were doing a lyrical dance  to a 9-11 remix of "Arms of an Angel" by Sarah Mclachlan.  It was so beautiful I could hardly keep my camera up, because I wanted to watch.  Brought tears to my eyes.  Great job, guys!

This is Miss Lauren.
She's graceful.
She's talented.
  She's beautiful.
And, I believe this next series of pictures proves it . . .

I love this next one, becaue I love how you can see the others jumping off to the side.

Another one of my favorites.   I think this one shows the true "heart" of a dancer.  She was "semi" rehearsing (that thing dancers do where they are doing tiny movements but mostly rehearsing in their heads) to the side before they started their next dance.

I can't say enough about this next young man's talent.  I'd never seen a more powerful solo in my life.  And he's never danced????

Pretty, pretty girl!

Love these next two!  Graceful, graceful . . .

And this next guy?  Oh my goodness!  Can I just say that he is seriously the best break dancer I have ever seen in my whole life?  Pictures do not do his talent justice.  And he was so shy and reserved to even show me. The group had to encourage him to dance for me!  Keep it up my friend.  The talent you posess is ENORMOUS!

Meet Jon Bon Jovi.  I kept teasing him that he reminds me of him because he has the coolest hair!  Ha ha!

And here's our friend Lauren again.
Look at that form.
Look at that smile!

I'm told these two are BFFs.  :)

Told ya she was beautiful!   Love this picture!

Bye Dance Force!  You guys are crazy awesome!   See you at the end of April when I come back to take pictures at your Dress Rehearsal.  I can't wait!
